Kenshin has settled in to his new life with Kaoru along with also his friends if he is approached by a request by the Meiji government. Makoto Shishio, a former assassin such as Kenshin, set on fire, was betrayed and left for dead. He lived, and it is in Kyoto, plotting to overthrow the government. Against Kaoru's wishes, Kenshin agrees to go to Kyoto and keep his country.
