Punishment is an Australian television soap opera.
Set in a literary men's prison, so the show attempted to present a man version of the soap Prisoner. Punishment was seen by Efforts by the show's makers to differentiate the show. However, high viewing figures were not attracted by the formula. Network Ten deemed and it was removed from the programs. The rest of the 26 episodes were shown. Searching for a soap opera, the show was recorded using the single camera technique.
The routine cast featured several Australian actors such as Brian Wenzel, Barry Crocker, Michael Preston, Ross Thompson, Anne Haddy, George Spartels, Cornelia Frances, Lisa Peers and Julie McGregor. Mel Gibson played a captive. Kris McQuade played the girl friend of Gibson's personality and was phased out of this series due to Gibson's death. The programme was produced and directed by Alan Coleman.
