Richard Mayhew directs an ordinary daily life in London when a girl named do or drops, hurt, across his course. His life is gone and he's dragged in to the fantastical world of London Below. Pursued by the murderous Messrs. Croup and Vandemar, Door along with Richard with the help of both Hunter and the Marquis de Carabas, attempt to locate the Angel Islington, who knows the secret behind the murder of Door's family, and also a method for Richard to return home.
