Adèle Hugo, daughter of famed French writer Victor Hugo, falls deeply in love with British soldier Albert Pinson while living off the shore of England in exile. Though he spurns her affections, she follows him and takes on the alias of Adèle Lewly. Albert continues to deny her, however, she remains obsessive in her quest to win him .
