The Only
The Only covers Briana Scurry's greatest triumphs and deepest defeats. The film covers the inspirational splendor and dark sides of a Hall of Fame goalie who was the only Black starting and openly gay player. The film celebrates Scurry's historic career, which included two Olympic gold medals and a penalty save that helped the U.S. win the 1999 Women's World Cup. It also tells how she overcame racism and homophobia during her greatest triumphs before finding herself on the edge of suicide after a career-ending concussion.
