After being kicked for burning a barn to get revenge ben Quick arrives in Frenchman's Bend, MS. Can Varner owns pretty much every thing in Frenchman's Bend and he hires Ben to function within his store. Will thinks his son, Jody, that oversees the store, lacks vision and despairs of him getting his wife pregnant. Will believes that the daughter, Clara, a school teacher, won't ever get married. He decides that Ben Quick might make a Fantastic husband for Clara to deliver some new blood in to the household
