In this belated sequel to'The Decline of the American Empire', Remy, 50-something Montreal faculty professor, recognized that he is dying of liver cancer. He decides to make amends fulfill with his family and friends before he dies. He tries to create peace with his exwife Louise, who requests their eldest son Sebastian, a prosperous entrepreneur living in London, to come home. Sebastian makes the impossible happen, using his contacts and interrupting the entire Canadian network at every manner possible to help his daddy fight with his terminal ailment into the bitter end, however he tries to reunite his former friends, Pierre, Alain, Dominique, Diane, along with Claude to watch their old friend before he passes on.
