Under cover cop Jim Raynor (Jason Patric) is a seasoned veteran. His wife, Kristen Cates (Jennifer Jason Leigh), is lacking in experience, however he thinks she is tough enough to work his second case with him: a deep cover assignment to create down the infamously hard-to-capture medication lord Gaines (Gregg Allman).
