Roald Dahl's Esio Trot
Mr. Hoppy is just a timid older man who lives independently in an apartment construction. For many years, he was secretly in love with Mrs. Silver, a lady who resides below him. Mr. Hoppy often leans over his balcony and exchanges polite conversation with Mrs. Silver, but he's too shy to reveal how he believes. Mr. Hoppy wants to express his feelings Mrs. Silver, but he can never bring his lips to form the language. Mrs. Silver has a little pet tortoise, Alfie, whom she loves very much. One morning, Mrs. Silver mentions to Mr. Hoppy that even though she has had Alfie for several decades, her furry friend has just grown a very small bit, and it has gained just 3 oz in weight. She admits she wants she knew to produce her little Alfie grown into a more tortoise. Mr. Hoppy unexpectedly thinks of a method to give Mrs. Silver her wish and then win her affection.
