Set in Harlem in 1987, Claireece"Precious" Jones can be actually just a 16-year-old africanamerican girl born into a life nobody would desire. She is pregnant for the next time with her absent father. She must wait foot and hand for her mother, an angry woman who abuses her mentally and physically. School is chaotic and Precious has already reached the ninth grade with good marks and a trick --she can't read.
