On one of his bratty boy Eric's annual visits, the plutocrat U.S. Bates takes him to his section shop and offers him anything in it as a present. Eric selects. Initially the man suffers many indignities as Eric's"toy", but gradually teaches the lonely boy exactly what it is like to possess and become considered a friend.
