Felix Ungar has only broken up with his spouse. Despondenthe goes to kill himself is saved by his friend Oscar Madison. With nowhere else to go, Oscar urges Felix to move in with him, at least. The one issue is that Felix is clean, very neat, and neurotic, whereas Oscar is slovenly and casual.
